The Savagery of Jesus - Phd+ holder in savagery, savageness! - #Savage Jesus

Jesus character is really is the most savage I know of! He is so secure which models for us to do same. “Savagery” in this case means Clear, Upfront, Direct, Straightforward & Confident!

The super clear and concise nature of his words and instructions are such that you don’t need to read in between the lines. I was reading the book of John chapter 15:14 “You are my friends if you do what I command.” John 15:14 NLT. Honestly you should have seen my reaction to the IF statement. I was like yaaaypa! I have been confidently calling myself a friend of God, all this while without realizing that one of the prerequisites is ‘if you do my command”.

In all honesty, my disdainful reaction was more of a response to the ‘if statement’ than anything else. ‘IF’...? Jesus really IF? - An If statement is a conditional statement - “Basically saying on the condition that this is true, then you get that, or on the condition you have done A then you get access to B. I feel like people respond differently to conditional statements. Some people may feel threatened or triggered by a conditional statement while some may interpret them more simply as a challenge, guideline or pre-requirement to getting an outcome they actually desire. Master Jesus is surely not afraid to trigger you! I think it's because if you process your triggers healthily - it will lead you to triumph.

I curiously went to read the previous verse to understand the context and it says “This is my commandment: Love each other in the same way I have loved you. There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” John 15:12-13 NLT

My interpretation (i love you greatly cause laying down a life is the highest sacrifice for a friend. But who are my friends? those that obey my command)

Is this Jesus saying that He died for His friends? Or He died for you (i.e. that salvation is available for you ) IF you chose to become his friends (and believe in Him) or you become his friends as soon as you start genuinely doing his command. Maybe its something to think about <3...

I find that Most of Jesus' words and instructions have a lot of empowering conditions…we get to participate in the choice for the result we want- Do this and then this- If this and then that…#periodt

Personally, it is no threat to me because I am pretty secure about my relationship with Jesus, it's a reminder that love & relationships are two- way streets which require the mathematics of give and take.

I love that Jesus is so kind, generous, loving YET not afraid to trigger us with conditions and or classification - for lack of better words! It's almost triggering every time I read 'to those who' in the scripture- I am like you mean this ain't free for all? #LOL. In most of his speaking, we are clearly empowered to choose what we want to make of our relationship with Him. Here is what you need if you want to be my friend, here is what you need to do or be if you want to be my close friend and so on. Talking about #classification

In the same light, one of my favorites is

"Draw near to God and He will draw near unto you'' James 4:8 ESV

"Come near to God and he will come near to you"

James 4:8 NIV.

I am interpreting the undertone here as that God trusts in His own faithfulness, ability, stability, reliability, solidity and in his unchanging yes in drawing near to us. However, because as humans we have the potential to be fickle, The Lord is like, you make a move and I WILL DRAW near unto you! Kinda saying play your part where you can - regardless of whether your capacity is small like a mustard seed or bold like stepping in the water or climbing a mountain- just reach out/ draw near/come close/ make a move and THEN!! He is about to draw you even nearer.

#interestingthoughts Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments.

The same goes for Psalms 145:18 NIV

" The LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth."
Well, this could have easily said the Lord is near to all whom He died for…(throwing shades of sarcasm here) But No…He says to all who call on Him in truth! So Hey! we really do have a part to play in building a growing relationship with God.

A Prayer for You.

  • Friend, I cover your heart today to know that you are loved but more so that you understand why healthy love needs guiding rules of connection or code of practice to keep it healthy.

  • I pray that you don't feel bound to conditions but that you actually feel empowered to love and inspired to find the true depth of the love of God.

  • I pray that you start to feel powerful in your relationship with God. Also that you start to know and believe that playing your part as in any relationship is POWERFUL!

Road to Freedom:

Guiding principles or conditional prerequisites that help you play your part in any relationship should not feel like a trigger or threat, but as building blocks for your own good and for something solid if you really want the relationship.

Questions to ponder.

How do you feel about conditional statements ?

Do conditional promises trigger you? if they trigger you there is a high chance you have an unprocessed trauma that you need to take to the Lord?

What can you do to help yourself grow in relationship with God ?
